    PM Modi virtually inaugurates Indian Ship Technology centre at IMU Visakhapatnam

    As part of multiple development initiatives under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Indian Ship Technology Centre (ISTC) located at the Indian Maritime University (IMU) campus in Visakhapatnam on Saturday.

    Officials from IMU highlighted that the ISTC is set to bolster the shipbuilding industry by focusing on research and development in ship design, production processes, and skill enhancement for manpower. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and advanced software, the centre aims to become a pivotal hub for conceptualizing innovative ship designs within India.

    Prof. V K Kesavadev, Director of the Visakhapatnam campus, emphasized that the ISTC reflects IMU’s dedication to advancing the Indian maritime sector by delivering crucial designs and technological support to shipbuilding enterprises.

    Prof. K.M. Sivakholundu, Director of ISTC, expressed optimism about the centre’s role in realizing the government’s ambition to position India among the top ten global shipbuilding nations by 2030. He outlined the centre’s multipronged approach to serve as a one-stop solution provider in design, consultancy, training, and policy support for the industry.

    The inauguration ceremony was attended by experts, industry practitioners, officials, departmental heads, faculty members, staff, and students from all six campuses of the Indian Maritime University.
