The Port of Osaka handled 180,184 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in October, marking a 7.3 per cent year-on-year (YoY) decline for the second month running, according to preliminary figures from the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau.
Exports fell 8.6 per cent to 82,790 TEUs, while imports dropped 6.3 per cent to 97,394 TEUs.
Loaded containers totalled 127,844 TEUs, down 9.7 per cent, with exports at 36,137 TEUs (-10.6 per cent) and imports at 91,707 TEUs (-9.4 per cent). Empty containers amounted to 52,340 TEUs, a slight 1 per cent decrease.
For the first ten months of 2025, foreign-trade container traffic reached 1.73 million TEUs, up 2.9 per cent on the same period last year.
Exports rose 4.6 per cent to 789,219 TEUs, and imports increased 1.6 per cent to 936,146 TEUs. Loaded containers totalled 1.22 million TEUs, nearly unchanged (-0.1 per cent), while empty containers surged 11.3 per cent to 504,338 TEUs.
In November, the Port of Osaka’s Yumeshima Container Terminal was awarded carbon neutral port (CNP) certification by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) for berths C10, C11 and C12.
