V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Tuticorin, has recorded a significant increase in iron and steel cargo handling during the April–December 2025 period, underscoring strong industrial demand and improved operational performance at the port.

During the nine months, the port handled 42.66 thousand metric tonnes (TMT) of iron and steel cargo, up from 31.97 TMT in the corresponding period of the previous year. This represents a robust year-on-year growth of 10.69 TMT, translating into a 33.44% increase.

The strong growth reflects sustained demand from the steel and manufacturing sectors, as well as the port authority’s continued emphasis on efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence. Improved cargo handling processes and consistent service levels have contributed to the positive performance, reinforcing the port’s role as a key gateway for industrial cargo in southern India.

Port officials noted that the encouraging throughput figures align with V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority’s broader strategy to support regional industrial growth while enhancing capacity utilization and service quality.
