Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) on Thursday inaugurated the first container rake carrying polypropylene from Thokur station in Mangaluru taluk, marking a new milestone in freight operations on the Konkan Railway network.

The polypropylene cargo belongs to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL). On average, MRPL is expected to offer around two container rakes per month for transportation to the Morbi region of Rajasthan, according to a media statement issued by KRCL.

The traffic will be handled by the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) using its own container rakes. To operationalise the movement, CWC and MRPL have entered into a formal agreement.

To support containerised and other freight traffic, KRCL, in association with CWC, has developed comprehensive logistics infrastructure at Thokur station. The facilities include a paved wharf with approach roads, covered warehouses, open stack yards and other modern logistics amenities, positioning Thokur as a well-equipped freight handling terminal.

KRCL said the commencement of this traffic is expected to encourage other customers to utilise the enhanced storage and transportation facilities available at Thokur station, strengthening the region’s multimodal logistics ecosystem.
