A.P. Moller–Maersk has taken delivery of Tangier Mærsk, the first vessel in a new series of six mid-size container ships, at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s yard in Jingjiang, China.
The 9,000-TEU vessel is equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol, supporting Maersk’s fleet renewal programme and long-term competitiveness. “We are pleased to take delivery of Tangier Mærsk, marking the first of six vessels in this new series,” said Anda Cristescu, Head of Chartering & Newbuilding at Maersk.
On its maiden voyage, Tangier Mærsk will call at Shanghai before entering service on Maersk’s TP15 route, connecting East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding delivered the vessel three months ahead of schedule. Maersk is set to receive four more vessels from the series later this year, with the final delivery expected in early 2027.
