In a significant move to strengthen India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) Ltd and Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to form a consortium for undertaking a large-scale, strategically important national shipbuilding programme.

The collaboration aims at the construction of advanced maritime platforms and is expected to play a key role in enhancing India’s maritime infrastructure, technological self-reliance, and long-term operational preparedness.

The MoU was signed by Cdr Shantanu Bose, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding), GRSE, and Capt Ganti Venkateswarlu, IN (Retd.), Officiating Chairman and Managing Director, HSL, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

By leveraging the complementary strengths and expertise of the two shipyards, the partnership is expected to significantly reinforce the national vision of self-reliance and capacity enhancement in the shipbuilding sector.
