Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has said that the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh has the potential to emerge as a major aviation hub for India’s eastern coast, strengthening regional connectivity and supporting the country’s growing air transport sector.

Speaking on the airport’s strategic importance, Naidu noted that Bhogapuram’s location and planned infrastructure position it to serve as a key gateway for both domestic and international passenger and cargo traffic. The project is expected to complement existing airports on the eastern seaboard while boosting economic activity across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states.

The minister said the airport is being developed with a long-term vision to accommodate rising air travel demand and facilitate the movement of high-value cargo, including electronics, pharmaceuticals, seafood, and perishables. Improved connectivity is also expected to enhance tourism, attract investments, and support export-oriented industries in the region.

Industry stakeholders believe the new airport could play a pivotal role in strengthening multimodal logistics by integrating air cargo operations with nearby seaports, road networks, and industrial corridors. The development aligns with the government’s broader objective of expanding aviation infrastructure and improving regional air connectivity under its long-term growth strategy.

Once operational, Bhogapuram International Airport is expected to reduce congestion at existing airports, enhance connectivity along India’s eastern coast, and contribute significantly to regional economic development by creating employment opportunities and improving access to global markets.
