The New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) has achieved a significant milestone with the handling of its first-ever shipment of Steel Grade Pig Iron, reinforcing the port’s growing role in supporting India’s manufacturing and export ecosystem.
The consignment, comprising 31,500 metric tonnes of Steel Grade Pig Iron, was exported by Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Ltd. (KFIL) to Kenya aboard the vessel MV Resolute Bay.
The landmark shipment highlights the expanding capabilities of Indian ports in facilitating large-scale industrial cargo movements and connecting domestic manufacturers with international markets. It also underscores the importance of efficient maritime logistics in strengthening India’s global trade ambitions.
The successful operation involved close coordination among several stakeholders, including KFIL, the shipping line, vessel agent GAC Group, stevedores and the NMPA team.
The movement is expected to further strengthen NMPA’s position as an important gateway for industrial and bulk cargo, while demonstrating the port’s ability to support exporters seeking reliable access to overseas markets.
The first-ever handling of Steel Grade Pig Iron at NMPA comes at a time when India is focusing on improving port infrastructure, enhancing logistics efficiency and expanding its presence in global supply chains.
The successful export of the consignment to Kenya marks another step towards strengthening India’s trade links with international markets and reflects the growing importance of modern port infrastructure in enabling the country’s manufacturing and export growth.
