    NTC has completed a trial involving a 400-metric-tonne (MT) girder bridge, marking a significant step in strengthening its capabilities for handling and transporting oversized and heavy cargo.

    The test was conducted to assess the feasibility and operational readiness of the girder bridge for demanding heavy-haul movements. Such infrastructure is important for transporting large industrial equipment and project cargo that cannot be moved using conventional logistics systems.

    The successful trial demonstrates NTC’s ability to manage extremely heavy loads while maintaining operational and safety requirements. The capability could support sectors such as power generation, infrastructure, construction, engineering and heavy manufacturing, where individual cargo units can weigh hundreds of tonnes.

    Heavy-lift and project logistics require detailed route planning, specialised equipment and careful coordination. Bridges and other transport infrastructure must also be assessed for their ability to safely accommodate exceptional loads before movements are undertaken.

    The 400-MT trial is expected to provide valuable operational data on load capacity, structural performance and movement procedures. The findings can help logistics planners determine suitable routes and develop safer transportation plans for future heavy cargo projects.

    Growing investment in infrastructure and industrial projects is generating demand for specialised logistics services capable of moving transformers, generators, turbines, construction machinery and other oversized equipment.

    By testing high-capacity infrastructure, NTC can improve its preparedness for complex cargo movements and potentially expand the range of projects it can support.

    The successful completion of the trial highlights the importance of specialised heavy-haul infrastructure in India’s evolving project logistics sector. It also supports efforts to improve the country’s ability to transport large industrial equipment efficiently and safely.
