CMA CGM and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have resumed routing their joint North Europe–Australasia container service through the Suez Canal in both directions, according to DynaLiners.
The service is marketed as Newmo by CMA CGM and Australia Express by MSC. The return to the shorter Suez Canal route will enable the carriers to reduce the number of vessels deployed from 18 to 16.
The revised fleet will comprise vessels with an average capacity of approximately 9,000 TEUs, while port coverage will remain unchanged.
The service rotation is London Gateway – Rotterdam – Hamburg – Antwerp – Le Havre – Valencia – La Spezia – Marseille – Port Réunion – Port Louis – Sydney – Melbourne – Adelaide – Fremantle – Singapore – Ennore – Colombo – London Gateway.
The resumption of Suez Canal transits eliminates the longer diversion around the Cape of Good Hope, reducing sailing distances and the number of vessels required to maintain the service schedule.
The move comes amid a gradual increase in Suez Canal usage by major container shipping lines during 2026. However, carriers continue to assess security and operational conditions in the Red Sea region when determining routing decisions.
