Mumbai-headquartered Cordelia Cruises has launched Cordelia Sky, its largest cruise vessel, and commenced commercial sailings on October 23, 2026. The launch marks a significant milestone for the company as it transitions from a single-ship operator to a two-ship fleet, with another vessel, Cordelia Sun, scheduled to join the fleet in 2027.
The launch event was attended by representatives from the media and tourism industries.
Addressing the media, Cordelia Cruises President and CEO Jurgen Bailom said the company had carried more than 800,000 passengers since commencing operations. He highlighted the company’s vision of making cruising a preferred travel option for Indians and outlined its ambition to position India among the world’s five largest cruise markets by 2032.
Cordelia Cruises, a subsidiary of Waterways Leisure Tourism Ltd, also plans to generate 20,000 additional jobs over the next three years. Its workforce development initiatives include a cadet programme, while the company is progressing towards appointing its first female captain. The company has also introduced The Chairman’s Club, a loyalty programme for its members.
As part of its expansion into international cruise itineraries, Cordelia Cruises is planning a 34-day voyage from Mumbai to Sydney during the 2028 monsoon season. The cruise is expected to cover seven countries and 16 ports, offering passengers an extended international travel experience.
Commenting on the business outlook, Bailom noted that geopolitical developments were contributing to higher food and fuel costs. Despite these pressures, the company continues to manage the challenges while anticipating an improvement in operating conditions.
Measuring approximately 260 metres in length, Cordelia Sky has a gross tonnage of 77,104 and spans 12 decks. The vessel features 1,002 cabins, designed primarily for double occupancy, across a range of categories, including interior staterooms, ocean-view cabins, balcony mini-suites and suites. Its accommodation options include the Chairman’s Suite, described as the largest stateroom onboard.
The vessel offers a broad range of leisure and entertainment facilities, including restaurants, a fitness centre, spa and salon, casino, gaming arcade and live entertainment shows. Its facilities also include the 930-seat Marquee Theatre, designed to host onboard performances and entertainment programmes.
With the introduction of Cordelia Sky and plans for Cordelia Sun, Cordelia Cruises is expanding its fleet and strengthening its position in India’s growing cruise tourism sector, while pursuing longer international itineraries and employment opportunities across the maritime and tourism industries.
