Amid the crisis of patato market in Odisha, the government is all set to import the essential tuber via special freight trains.
It was informed by the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra on Sunday.
Acting on the skyrocketing prices of potatoes across the state, Patra said, efforts are on to bring potato consignments in two dedicated freights from UP. Discussions with the Railway Minister in this regard, are in the final stage to import the vital kitchen need soon.
Underlining the swelling potato prices, the Minister said that disruption in potato supply from West Bengal to control local prices in mid-July led to a dip in stocks that led higher prices than the tuber was sold out in the previous years.
To exploring another better option apart from the West Bengal, the government is trying the UP market regarding potato import, Patra added.
