Angeliki Frangou’s Navios Maritime Partners has exercised options for a pair of containership newbuilds in South Korea.
The New York-listed company, which has targeted mostly aframax/LR2 tanker newbuilding projects since last year, has contracted HJ Shipbuilding & Construction, formerly known as Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction, to build two more 7,900 teu vessels worth about $110m each, following on from an original order for two same-sized ships in June.
Navios Partners operates more than 170 vessels, of which nearly 40 are boxships. The latest newbuilds will be methanol-ready and will deliver in early 2027.
