AD Ports Group has strengthened its foothold in Egypt’s container terminal sector with the acquisition of Saudi Egyptian Investment Company’s (SEIC) entire 19.3% stake in Alexandria Container & Cargo Handling Company (ALCN). The transaction, valued at approximately $278 million, marks a significant step in the company’s strategy to expand along key global trade corridors.

The investment enhances AD Ports Group’s position on the main East–West maritime route, which connects Asia, the Middle East, and Europe — one of the busiest container trade pathways in the world.

ALCN is among Egypt’s largest terminal operators, managing container facilities at Alexandria and El-Dekheilla ports. Together, the terminals offer a combined capacity of 1.5 million TEU and handled 1.07 million TEU in FY 2025. With about 1.6 km of quay length and direct access to Egypt’s national rail network, the terminals support efficient multimodal connectivity for both domestic and regional cargo movement.

ALCN reported FY 2025 revenues of $176.5 million and maintained a utilisation rate of approximately 71%.

Commenting on the acquisition, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, Managing Director and Group CEO of AD Ports Group, said the deal expands the company’s operational footprint along one of the world’s most strategic maritime routes.

“This investment supports our efforts to facilitate trade through this vital corridor, while deepening our partnerships and expanding our investments in Egypt. This is fully aligned with the directives of our wise leadership to drive economic diversification, strengthen regional integration, and deliver long-term value for our stakeholders,” he said.

Since 2022, AD Ports Group has accelerated its expansion in Egypt through a series of strategic investments, including the acquisitions of regional shipping player Transmar, port operator TCI, and maritime and cargo services provider Safina. Earlier in 2025, the group signed a 50-year concession agreement with the Suez Canal Economic Zone to develop a 20 sq km logistics and industrial zone east of Port Said on the Mediterranean.

The latest stake purchase further cements AD Ports Group’s growing influence in Egypt’s maritime and logistics landscape.
