The Damietta Alliance Container Terminal has officially commenced operations at the Port of Damietta, marking a significant expansion of Egypt’s container handling capacity and strengthening its role as a regional maritime hub.

The newly launched terminal is designed to enhance cargo throughput, reduce vessel turnaround times and improve connectivity across key trade routes linking the Mediterranean, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Equipped with modern quay cranes, advanced yard systems and digital cargo management solutions, the facility aims to boost operational efficiency and service reliability.

The Damietta Alliance is a consortium comprising global terminal operators and shipping stakeholders, formed to develop and operate the new container terminal under a long-term concession agreement. The project is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to modernise port infrastructure and position the country as a major logistics gateway serving regional and transshipment markets.

Officials said the terminal will contribute to job creation, stimulate investment and support growing trade volumes, particularly as supply chains continue to diversify across the Mediterranean basin.

Industry analysts note that the launch comes at a time when ports are investing heavily in capacity expansion and technology upgrades to handle larger vessels and rising container flows. With its strategic location near the Suez Canal corridor, the Damietta terminal is expected to attract increased liner services and strengthen Egypt’s competitiveness in global shipping networks.
