The National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation’s logistics arm, NICDC Logistics Data Services (NLDSL), has unveiled an upgraded logistics data system that provides end-to-end visibility of container movements across India and overseas.
The platform integrates multiple transport modes—including road, rail, and sea—using container numbers, truck or trailer identifiers, and railway freight numbers to track shipments in real time. A live container heatmap shows container distribution nationwide, enabling policymakers and industry players to identify congestion points and respond more efficiently.
Rajat Kumar Saini, CEO and Managing Director of NLDSL, highlighted that the new system allows exporters to track containers even during high-sea voyages—a capability that was limited in the previous version. “The upgraded data bank offers continuous insights into logistics performance and supports better operational planning,” he said.
Officials noted that the platform also helps monitor trucks’ adherence to regulatory norms, improving overall compliance and transparency in transport operations.
The upgrade comes alongside ongoing progress on the government’s plan to develop 12 new industrial cities across ten states. Saini stated that work is advancing steadily, with 11 of the 12 locations expected to begin construction soon. The Union Cabinet had earlier approved these industrial cities as part of six major industrial corridors, with a total planned investment of INR 28,602 crore.
Previously, India’s logistics data system could track containers only until they departed Indian ports, limiting visibility for exporters. The upgraded system now bridges this gap, offering a comprehensive, multi-modal view of logistics movements within India and abroad. Analysts expect the enhanced platform to streamline operations, improve export efficiency, and strengthen India’s position as a global trade hub.
