Maersk has announced the suspension of the 40-foot container pickup charge at its Johannesburg operations, aiming to ease costs for shippers and improve cargo flow efficiency.
The suspension comes in response to market feedback and operational challenges, and applies to both import and export shipments. Maersk said the move is temporary and intended to support customers and streamline logistics during periods of fluctuating demand and terminal congestion.
Industry analysts noted that the waiver could reduce overall shipping costs, incentivize container movement, and provide relief to exporters and importers navigating supply chain pressures in the region.
