Haldia, West Bengal: In a significant boost to regional trade, Nepal-bound Maersk Line containers have officially returned to the Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK) after a gap of nearly six years. The move marks a pivotal moment for the port, which has been working steadily to reclaim cargo volumes diverted to a competing port since 2018.

The first batch of Maersk containers was discharged today from the vessel MV XIN LONG YUN 58, symbolising not just the revival of a key trade segment but also a renewed vote of confidence in HDC’s capabilities and service efficiency.

Port officials noted that the return of Maersk — one of the world’s largest and most trusted shipping lines — underscores HDC’s strengthened operational standards, enhanced customer focus, and the port’s commitment to offering a reliable gateway for Nepal’s transit trade.

“This comeback is more than the movement of containers; it is a strong affirmation of our team’s relentless efforts to rebuild market confidence and deliver improved value to our stakeholders,” an SMPK spokesperson said.

With this renewed partnership, HDC aims to build on the momentum and further position itself as a strategic, dependable hub for regional and international cargo movement in the days ahead.
