Port Houston has reported its strongest-ever January performance, handling a record number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, underscoring sustained cargo momentum at the US Gulf gateway.

The port attributed the milestone to robust container imports and steady export volumes, supported by resilient consumer demand and strong regional manufacturing activity. Loaded import containers accounted for a significant share of the growth, reflecting continued replenishment of retail and industrial inventories.

Export volumes also remained firm, driven by shipments of resin, chemicals, and agricultural products, reinforcing Houston’s position as a key export hub for US energy and petrochemical cargoes.

Port officials highlighted ongoing infrastructure investments and terminal efficiency improvements as contributing factors to the record performance. Enhancements in yard operations, berth productivity, and landside connectivity have helped the port accommodate rising cargo flows while minimizing congestion.

The January results build on a series of strong monthly performances in recent years, positioning Port Houston for continued growth in 2026 amid evolving global trade patterns and nearshoring trends.
