Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has started trial operations of the first phase of the Red Sea Container Terminal (RSCT) at Sokhna Port, according to a statement published by SCZONE in social media.

The terminal is operated by the Chinese company Hutchison under an alliance with global shipping lines COSCO and CMA.

The project is being developed as one of the largest container terminals in Egypt.  The total quay length of the project is 2.6 kilometers across two phases, with the first phase accounting for 1.2 kilometers. The combined area of the two phases is 1.6 million square meters, with a designed capacity of up to 3.5 million TEUs annually. The terminal can receive vessels with lengths of up to around 400 meters.

The development is intended to support transit trade and container handling at Egyptian ports, particularly Sokhna Port on the Red Sea.

Following completion of development works to a depth of 19 meters, Sokhna Port is listed in Guinness World Records as the largest man-made port in the world.
