Under the Sagarmala program, India is currently implementing 50 projects worth ₹3,581 crore, aimed at enhancing port infrastructure, improving logistics efficiency, and boosting coastal economic development.
The projects cover a range of initiatives, including port modernization, connectivity improvements, port-led industrial clusters, and development of inland waterways to streamline cargo movement. Officials said these efforts are expected to strengthen trade efficiency, reduce logistics costs, and support regional economic growth along India’s coastline.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways highlighted that the ongoing projects are part of a broader push under the Sagarmala program to modernize ports, integrate multimodal logistics, and promote private sector participation. Once completed, the projects are expected to improve cargo handling capacity, accelerate trade, and create employment opportunities in port and allied sectors.
Industry experts noted that the Sagarmala program continues to be a key driver for India’s maritime and coastal infrastructure development, aligning with the government’s vision to make Indian ports globally competitive.
