Swiss Airtainer SA has announced that MSC Air Cargo has officially approved its flagship RKN container for use across the airline’s global air freight network. This milestone adds another major carrier to Swiss Airtainer’s growing list of partners and reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable, temperature-controlled logistics.

The Swiss Airtainer RKN, designed specifically for the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry, offers a next-generation approach to cold chain logistics. Its lightweight structure reduces fuel consumption, while a robust container shell ensures durability under various climatic conditions. The unit integrates real-time monitoring technology for precise temperature and location tracking, and features both electric and solar-powered charging options, an innovative combination aimed at reducing operational emissions.

The announcement comes shortly after Swiss Airtainer onboarded LATAM Cargo and United Cargo in June. LATAM Cargo is now utilizing the RKN solution across the Americas, with both companies united by a shared sustainability vision. United Cargo became the first U.S.-based airline to deploy the unit, achieving a reported 40% CO₂ reduction on its maiden flight.

These back-to-back wins reinforce the market relevance of Swiss Airtainer’s offering, especially as regulatory and environmental pressures reshape the pharma air freight sector. With MSC Air Cargo — one of the fastest-growing carriers operating fuel-efficient Boeing 777 freighters — Swiss Airtainer’s RKN enters a truly global arena, unlocking further visibility and operational scale.

The growing adoption of Swiss Airtainer’s RKN reflects the industry’s need for greener, smarter, and more reliable cold chain solutions. As global pharma and life science shipments expand, carriers are expected to further prioritize innovation-led partnerships like this one.
