Royal Caribbean’s Celebrity Millennium showcased the operational capabilities of Mumbai’s Ballard Pier during its landmark call on 25 November, as the terminal executed large-scale passenger and baggage movements with precision and speed.
Despite handling 2,062 disembarking and 2,096 embarking guests, the flow across the terminal remained smooth—a reflection of systems designed for clarity, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
One of the standout achievements was the average immigration clearance time of just 25 seconds, enabling quick movement even during peak volumes. The forecourt’s capacity to line up 35 coaches simultaneously ensured excursions rolled out without delays, while buggies provided convenient intra-terminal mobility for guests.
Behind the scenes, operational teams managed a high-volume baggage cycle, sorting and scanning nearly 4,000 bags in both directions within 2–3 hours—from ship to scanners to precisely organized zones categorised by number and type.
The arrival experience also integrated cultural and spatial design elements, from an Indian soundscape softening the scale of operations to the ‘Incredible India’ counter assisting visitors with information on key landmarks.
Captain Pierre Caruana of Celebrity Millennium praised the progress made since the vessel’s previous call, noting the “remarkable leap of change” in Mumbai’s cruising experience and acknowledging the exceptional hospitality received.
With its ability to seamlessly support both intermediate and turnaround calls, Ballard Pier’s operational performance during this visit underscores Mumbai’s readiness to scale up as a major cruise hub.
