The Khurda Road Division of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has strengthened its position as Indian Railways’ top-performing freight division, achieving its highest-ever loading figures and multiple national milestones.
Up to November 2025, the Division handled a total of 209 million tonnes of freight traffic, comprising 115 million tonnes of loading and 94 million tonnes of unloading—the highest among all railway divisions in the country. Bilaspur Division followed with 169.6 million tonnes, while Dhanbad and Chakradharpur Divisions recorded 152.8 MT and 145.8 MT respectively.
In a landmark achievement, Khurda Road Division became the fastest in Indian Railways’ history to handle 200 million tonnes, reaching the milestone in just 235 days as of 21 November 2025. This surpasses its previous record of 250 days set in 2024–25.
The Division also posted a historic monthly performance by achieving 14.441 million tonnes of loading in November 2025, its highest-ever for the month. This exceeded previous November benchmarks—12.990 MT (2023), 12.780 MT (2021), and 12.690 MT (2024)—and marked the first time the Division crossed the 14-million-tonne mark in November.
Freight earnings registered a strong rise as well, with ₹1,370.64 crore earned in November 2025 compared with ₹1,143.20 crore in November 2024, reflecting a 19.9% growth. This outpaced the loading increase of 13.8%, driven by a better freight mix, improved realization, and enhanced logistics efficiency.
Despite cyclonic weather and heavy rainfall during the period, the Division ensured seamless freight movement through effective planning, coordination, and real-time monitoring—reinforcing its role as a key freight powerhouse for Indian Railways.
