    The Port of Shimizu in central Japan handled a preliminary 34,683 TEUs of foreign-trade containers in November, up 4.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY), according to the Shizuoka Prefectural Government’s Shimizu Port Authority.

    Full containers accounted for 12,726 TEUs exported (up 6.8 per cent) and 16,717 TEUs imported (up 4.4 per cent), totaling 29,443 TEUs (up 5.4 per cent), while empty containers fell slightly to 5,240 TEUs (down 1.1 per cent).

    Domestic container traffic reached 10,448 TEUs, up 16.9 per cent, bringing combined foreign-trade and domestic throughput to 45,131 TEUs, a 7 per cent YoY increase and marking consecutive monthly growth.

    From January to November, Shimizu processed 371,717 TEUs of foreign-trade containers, up 1.7 per cent.

    Exports totaled 138,391 TEUs (up 1.2 per cent) and imports 181,232 TEUs (up 2.3 per  cent), with empties at 52,094 TEUs (up 1.1 per cent).

    Including 100,377 TEUs of domestic containers (up 0.9 per cent), the port’s combined foreign-trade and domestic container throughput reached 472,094 TEUs, up 1.6 per cent  cent YoY.

    In November, MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. signed a contract to develop and deploy a new service platform at the Shimizu Port Container Terminal.
