JNPA Chairman Gaurav Dayal has announced that the work order for the breakwater at the upcoming Vadhvan Port is expected to be issued within the next three months, marking a significant step toward kickstarting construction of the mega project.
According to Dayal, key clearances and preparatory activities are in their final stages, enabling the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority to move ahead with one of the port’s most critical infrastructure components. The breakwater will play a central role in ensuring safe berthing conditions and all-weather operations for vessels calling at the deep-draft port.
The Vadhvan Port project, being developed as a joint venture between JNPA and the Maharashtra Maritime Board, is designed to enhance India’s container capacity and position the western coast as a major transshipment hub. Once the breakwater contract is issued, authorities expect ground activity to accelerate, setting the pace for subsequent civil and marine works.
Dayal added that the government remains committed to completing the project within the planned timelines, noting that the port will significantly boost trade, create employment opportunities, and strengthen India’s maritime competitiveness in the region.
