Ocean Network Express (ONE) has issued its latest update on the M/V ONE HENRY HUDSON, which suffered a significant fire onboard while berthed at the Port of Los Angeles in November, continuing the complex recovery and cargo discharge operation.
The container vessel remains alongside at Yusen Terminal (YTI) as recovery efforts progress. ONE confirms that the initial phase of cargo discharge, involving dry containers not affected by the fire or firefighting water, was completed on 26 December 2025. The next phase — removing containers impacted by the fire and water — began on 29 December 2025, with additional water discharge and hold cleaning expected as part of the ongoing salvage operations.
All containers removed so far are being held at Yusen Terminal for inspection by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) and for General Average and salvage procedures, a legal arrangement enabling shared financial responsibility among stakeholders for extraordinary recovery costs.
The initial blaze, which broke out onboard on 21 November 2025, prompted a major firefighting response involving local fire departments and federal authorities. The fire was later contained, and the vessel was returned to the terminal under the direction of the Unified Command. No injuries have been reported from the incident.
ONE has reiterated its full cooperation with all relevant authorities and pledged to keep customers and partners informed as the recovery continues. Further advisories are expected as the situation evolves.
Shipping industry analysts note the broader implications of this high‑profile incident — including operational disruptions at one of the world’s busiest ports and complex insurance and cargo handling challenges — as stakeholders work through salvage, damage assessment and regulatory oversight.
