Cosco Shipping Specialised Carriers has moved to grow its heavylift fleet, placing an order for four multipurpose vessels at CSSC’s Chengxi Shipyard as demand from the wind power sector continues to build.

In a stock exchange filing, the Shanghai-listed owner said it will invest about $213m in the four 40,000 dwt MPP newbuildings, each to be fitted with heavylift cranes.

The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in June 2028, with the remaining three ships set to follow through to the end of February 2029.

Cosco Shipping Specialised Carriers said the order reflects a strong outlook for wind power logistics, with growing demand for the transport of larger and heavier turbine components as projects move further offshore.

The company has been an active player in wind-related cargoes, and the latest order is aimed at improving the flexibility and lifting capacity of its multipurpose fleet to handle next-generation equipment.
