Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced its entry into the European offshore wind vessel market as part of its strategy to expand into renewable energy–related maritime services.

The Japanese shipping major plans to support the rapidly growing offshore wind sector in Europe by participating in the development and operation of specialised vessels used for the construction, maintenance and servicing of offshore wind farms.

Europe is currently one of the world’s largest offshore wind markets, with governments and energy companies investing heavily in renewable power projects across the North Sea and other coastal regions. The demand for dedicated offshore support vessels has grown steadily as new wind farms are developed and existing facilities expand.

MOL said its move into the segment aligns with its long-term strategy to diversify beyond traditional shipping activities and strengthen its presence in sustainable energy supply chains. The company has been exploring opportunities in offshore wind logistics, installation support and maintenance services.

Industry analysts note that maritime companies are increasingly entering the offshore wind vessel market as global investments in renewable energy accelerate. By leveraging its shipping expertise and operational capabilities, MOL aims to capture new growth opportunities in Europe’s expanding offshore wind industry.
