Lila Global has acquired an Indian-flagged oil supertanker from Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines in a deal valued at approximately $58–59 million, marking a significant expansion of its tanker fleet.

The acquisition strengthens Lila Global’s presence in the crude oil transportation segment and enhances its capacity to serve international energy trade routes. The vessel is expected to operate under the Indian flag, supporting the country’s growing focus on expanding its merchant shipping fleet.

Industry sources say the deal reflects continued demand for modern, high-capacity tankers amid evolving global energy trade flows and shifting supply routes. Super tankers remain critical for long-haul crude transportation between major producing regions and consumption markets in Asia and beyond.

Maritime analysts note that the transaction also highlights increasing participation of Indian-linked shipping firms in global vessel acquisitions, as companies seek to secure assets amid tight shipping supply and strong freight market conditions in the tanker segment.
