Ocean Network Express (ONE) has signed a $1.2 billion agreement with HD Hyundai for the construction of new LNG-fuelled container vessels, strengthening its fleet modernisation and decarbonisation strategy.

The deal marks a renewed partnership between the two companies as ONE continues investing in environmentally advanced ships aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving fuel efficiency across its global operations.

The LNG-powered boxships are expected to support compliance with tightening international maritime emissions regulations while enhancing operational sustainability in long-haul container shipping services.

HD Hyundai secured the order amid strong global demand for next-generation vessels as shipping lines increasingly shift toward cleaner fuels and low-emission fleet technologies.

The agreement also reflects growing investment momentum in alternative-fuel shipbuilding, with LNG remaining a key transitional fuel for the maritime industry’s move toward lower-carbon shipping solutions.
