The Indian Coast Guard has inducted ICGS Akshay, a new-generation patrol vessel, into its fleet as part of efforts to enhance maritime surveillance, coastal security, and response capabilities along India’s coastline.

The vessel is equipped with advanced navigation, communication, and operational systems designed to support a wide range of missions, including coastal patrolling, search and rescue operations, anti-smuggling activities, and protection of maritime assets.

The induction of ICGS Akshay is expected to strengthen the Coast Guard’s ability to monitor vast maritime areas and respond quickly to emerging security challenges. The addition also supports India’s broader focus on modernising its maritime defence and improving preparedness in coastal regions.

Officials highlighted that the new vessel will play an important role in safeguarding national maritime interests while supporting humanitarian and law-enforcement missions at sea.

The latest addition reflects the Coast Guard’s continued fleet expansion and commitment to building a stronger, more capable coastal security network.
