Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has launched a new weekly import block train service connecting Pipavav Port with key inland container depots (ICDs) at Garhi Harsaru (Gurgaon), Piyala (Faridabad), and Sahnewal (Ludhiana), offering importers a reliable and efficient rail-based logistics solution.
The inaugural service, operated for Maersk Shipping Line and its customers, was flagged off on June 30, 2026. The new rail corridor is designed to improve supply chain efficiency by providing fixed weekly departures, enabling importers across North India to better plan inventory, reduce transit uncertainties, and ensure the timely movement of import containers from the port to inland destinations.
The service offers predictable weekly rail connectivity, facilitating faster evacuation of import containers from Pipavav Port while reducing dependence on road transportation. By shifting more cargo to rail, the initiative is expected to deliver cost-effective and environmentally sustainable inland logistics solutions.
Direct connectivity to ICD Garhi Harsaru, ICD Piyala, and ICD Sahnewal will provide importers with quicker access to major industrial and consumption centres in North India. Customers will also benefit from Gateway Distriparks’ integrated rail network and inland container depot infrastructure, enabling seamless end-to-end logistics support.
The launch comes at a time when India’s import trade continues to expand, increasing the demand for efficient multimodal logistics solutions. Gateway Distriparks said the new weekly service reinforces its commitment to delivering dependable, customer-centric and sustainable logistics services while helping importers optimise supply chains, improve cargo visibility, and enhance operational efficiency.
