India has urged Brazil to create a more predictable regulatory environment and ease market-access barriers for Indian pharmaceutical products as New Delhi seeks to expand its presence in the Latin American market.

The issue was discussed at the eighth India-Brazil Trade Monitoring Mechanism meeting in Brasília, co-chaired by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal. India emphasised the need for clearer and more predictable regulatory pathways to facilitate pharmaceutical exports.

India also highlighted its potential to support Brazil’s access to affordable and quality medicines, with improved market access expected to strengthen pharmaceutical trade between the two countries.

The discussions come as India and Brazil work to deepen bilateral trade. The two countries have set a target of $30 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, compared with $15.07 billion in 2025-26. Pharmaceuticals, chemicals and engineering goods are among the key sectors identified for expansion.

Both sides are also working to expand and modernise the India-Mercosur Preferential Trade Agreement, which could further improve market access for Indian exporters across the regional bloc.
