V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority has introduced additional storage and stacking space for laden EXIM containers handled through Mainline Vessel Services, aimed at facilitating and promoting container traffic through the port.
The Port has earmarked approximately 20,000 sq. m at the 7th Berth and another 20,000 sq. m near the 10th Berth, providing a total additional area of around 40,000 sq. m for container storage and stacking.
The facility will be available to Mainline Vessel Operators, Terminal Operators, major industries, freight forwarders, Customs Brokers, NVOCC operators and other eligible stakeholders, subject to the applicable rules and regulations of the Port. Its availability will also depend on space and operational convenience.
A key feature of the facility is a 10-day free storage period for laden EXIM containers handled through Mainline Vessels. Storage charges will be applicable after the free period in accordance with Clause 4.2, Sl. No. (1) of the prevailing Scale of Rates of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, as amended from time to time.
For the purpose of the Trade Notice, “Mainline Vessels” refers to vessels covered under Scheme 1, Scheme 2 and Scheme 2A, as specified in the Port’s Trade Notice dated 6 May 2026.
The facility has been made effective immediately and will remain available up to 31 March 2027, providing additional flexibility for EXIM stakeholders and supporting smoother container handling and storage operations at V.O. Chidambaranar Port.
