The ministry of ports, shipping, and waterways has given green light to the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) to upgrade the existing 80-bed Golden Jubilee Hospital into a 300-bed hospital. The project, estimated to cost Rs 222 crore, will be executed in PPP model. However, United Port and Dock Employees Union and VDLB and Dock Workers Union expressed their opposition to the ministry’s decision saying medical services will become inaccessible to the port’s employees in PPP model.
