Chattogram Port, Bangladesh’s principal seaport, has set a new benchmark by handling the highest number of containers in its 48-year history during the 2024-25 fiscal year, port officials announced.
Officials attributed the achievement to the expansion of jetty and yard facilities, which significantly improved container, cargo, and ship-handling operations.
In the first quarter of FY26 (July–September), the Bangladesh Navy-run Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) managed 342,649 TEUs at the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT), up 41,754 TEUs compared to the same period last year—a growth of 13.88%. The terminal also handled 178 ships, 26 more than last year, marking a 17.11% increase, the highest volumes ever recorded at the NCT.
Overall, Chattogram Port processed 927,713 TEUs in the first quarter of FY26, a rise of 101,185 TEUs or 12.24% from last year. Cargo handling reached 32.92 million tonnes, while 1,031 ships were managed, reflecting growth of 13.88% and 9.22%, respectively.
Port authorities credited the record-breaking performance to infrastructure development, enhanced operational efficiency, and improved logistics management, highlighting the port’s growing capacity to support Bangladesh’s expanding trade.
