CMA CGM IRON, the Group’s first dual-fuel methanol vessel, has made its maiden call at the Port of Singapore.
Built in Korea by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, the CMA CGM IRON is the first in a series of 12 dual-fuel methanol vessels with a capacity of 13,000 TEUs.
Sisterships CMA CGM COBALT, ARGON, PLATINUM, MERCURY, HELIUM, KRYPTON, THORIUM, OSMIUM, SILVER, COPPER, GOLD will be gradually deployed in 2025 and 2026.
CMA CGM IRON will join the CIMEX1 service, which connects Asia and the Middle East Gulf area.
Xavier Leclercq, Vice-President in charge of Newbuilding at CMA CGM, said: “Thanks to our long-standing collaboration with the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, we have met the challenge of this new propulsion system. This feat of engineering brings us closer to the Net Zero Carbongoal, complementing our dual-fuel gas-powered vessels.”
Last month, CMA CGM announced the launch of its new BIGEX 3 and BIGEX 4 services, to provide the most comprehensive and fast offer of direct links between India, the Middle East Gulf and the Red Sea.
