The government has dismissed reports alleging that around 450 containers were lying on roads near Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), calling such claims “baseless” and misleading.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways clarified that operations at Jawaharlal Nehru Port are proceeding normally, with no unusual congestion or cargo pile-up outside the port premises. Officials stated that container movement and yard operations remain under control, supported by ongoing coordination among port authorities, terminal operators, and logistics stakeholders.

According to the ministry, isolated instances of temporary container placement during peak operations or gate processing may occur, but these do not indicate systemic congestion or operational breakdown. The port continues to handle cargo flows efficiently despite broader challenges affecting global shipping and regional trade routes.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port, India’s largest container port, has been under scrutiny amid heightened concerns over supply chain disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis. However, authorities emphasized that contingency measures and streamlined processes are in place to ensure minimal disruption to trade.

Industry sources also indicated that there has been no significant backlog impacting exporters or importers at the port. Digital tracking systems, improved gate automation, and enhanced yard planning have helped maintain operational stability.

The government reiterated its commitment to ensuring smooth logistics operations and urged stakeholders to rely on verified information, cautioning against the spread of unsubstantiated reports that could create unnecessary concern within the trade community.

As global shipping continues to face volatility, officials said ports like Jawaharlal Nehru Port remain focused on maintaining efficiency and supporting India’s trade flows without disruption.
