Himachal Pradesh’s fruit growers have achieved a major export milestone with the first consignment of locally grown cherries and plums shipped to Oman, opening new opportunities for the state’s horticulture sector in international markets.
The maiden export move is expected to provide better market access for farmers, reduce dependence on domestic markets, and enhance the value of premium Himalayan fruits. Known for its favourable climate and high-quality produce, Himachal Pradesh has been expanding efforts to promote fruit exports and strengthen supply chains.
The shipment marks a significant step towards connecting orchard communities with overseas buyers, particularly in Gulf markets where demand for fresh and quality fruits remains strong. Export-oriented initiatives are likely to encourage growers to adopt improved grading, packaging, and post-harvest practices to meet global standards.
Industry stakeholders said the successful export of cherries and plums could pave the way for increased shipments of other Himachali fruits, helping farmers achieve better returns and boosting the state’s presence in global agricultural trade.
The development reflects a growing focus on transforming Himachal’s horticulture sector from a domestic supply base into an export-driven industry.
