The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed track-linking work connecting the Jogighopa Railway Station yard with the Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) GCT siding in Assam, giving the logistics facility direct access to the national railway network. The development is expected to strengthen freight movement and multimodal connectivity across Northeast India.

NFR has completed the Non-Interlocking (NI) work required to connect Lines 1 and 2 of Jogighopa station with the MMLP siding. With the link in place, freight trains will be able to move directly between the logistics park and the wider Indian Railways network.

Located along the Brahmaputra River, Jogighopa MMLP is Assam’s first multimodal logistics park. The facility integrates rail, road, waterways and air connectivity, providing a platform for cargo consolidation, storage and distribution.

The logistics park includes warehouses, cold-storage facilities, a customs clearance house, railway siding, cargo yards, workshops and truck parking facilities. The new rail connection is expected to make these facilities more accessible to freight operators and improve the efficiency of cargo handling.

The rail link is particularly significant for Northeast India’s supply chains, as it can provide an additional and more efficient route for moving goods between the region and markets elsewhere in India. It could also support cross-border trade with neighbouring countries, including Bhutan.

For industries in Assam and other northeastern states, improved rail access to the MMLP could help reduce dependence on road transportation for suitable cargo and strengthen multimodal logistics options. The facility is expected to support the movement of industrial goods, agricultural products, consumer cargo and other freight.

The development also aligns with India’s broader strategy of building integrated logistics infrastructure that combines different modes of transport. Government plans have identified Jogighopa as one of the key MMLPs being developed under the national multimodal logistics programme.

The completion of the rail connection therefore represents an important milestone for Jogighopa’s development as a regional freight hub. By linking the logistics park directly to the national railway network, the project could strengthen Assam’s position as a gateway for cargo moving between Northeast India, the rest of the country and neighbouring markets.

With rail, road and inland-waterway infrastructure being developed around the facility, Jogighopa is expected to play an increasingly important role in reducing logistics bottlenecks and improving supply-chain connectivity in the Northeast.
