As part of Kerala’s Vizhinjam port–led industrialisation drive, the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Kinfra) has identified more than 500 acres of land in Thiruvananthapuram district to develop industrial clusters and allied infrastructure linked to the Vizhinjam International Seaport.

Of the total land identified, 506 acres are located in Neyyattinkara taluk, while 50 acres have been acquired in Kattakada taluk. Within Neyyattinkara, around 400 acres have been earmarked in Kulathoor panchayat and another 106 acres in Perumkadavila near Neyyattinkara. The land will be acquired through a purchase model, with compensation paid directly to landowners.

To support the initiative, Finance Minister K N Balagopal has earmarked ₹1,000 crore in the state budget for Kinfra to acquire land under the purchase model.

Vizhinjam International Seaport, being developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd under a public-private partnership, has witnessed an increase in vessel calls and cargo handling. This has prompted authorities to fast-track the development of hinterland infrastructure, including logistics parks, container freight stations, manufacturing units and warehouses, all aimed at leveraging the port’s direct access to global maritime trade routes.

Officials said Kinfra’s land identification exercise is intended to lay the foundation for industrial parks, logistics facilities and processing units within a 20-km radius of the port. Discussions with landowners are currently underway, and detailed land valuation surveys have commenced as a precursor to formal acquisition.

In parallel, the state government has approved the appointment of a consultant to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for port-led industrialisation. The roadmap will include feasibility studies, cluster development strategies and detailed project reports aimed at attracting investors. Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd (VISL) has already submitted proposals identifying more than 700 acres in the district, underscoring the scale of infrastructure growth planned around the port.
