Maersk has announced an increase in its Emergency Fuel and Energy Surcharge (EFES) for cargo moving to and from Estonia, raising the charge to 18% in response to continued volatility in energy markets and rising operating costs.
The revised surcharge is intended to help offset higher fuel and energy expenses affecting the carrier’s operations across the region. Maersk said the adjustment reflects ongoing fluctuations in energy prices and the broader cost pressures facing the shipping and logistics industry.
The updated EFES will apply to eligible shipments involving Estonia from the effective date specified by the carrier. Customers have been advised to review the revised tariff structure and factor the surcharge into their shipping cost calculations for upcoming bookings.
Maersk noted that it regularly reviews its surcharge mechanisms to ensure they remain aligned with prevailing market conditions. The carrier said emergency fuel and energy surcharges are adjusted when necessary to reflect significant changes in energy-related operating expenses while supporting reliable service delivery.
