Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make key appearances in Uttar Pradesh next week as part of a major infrastructure and technology push, officials said on Tuesday. Modi will lay the foundation stone for north India’s first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Gautam Buddh Nagar on February 21, a development the state government says will advance India’s high-tech manufacturing footprint.

The new semiconductor facility is expected to help develop a local electronics supply chain and create employment opportunities as part of the broader India Semiconductor Mission initiative.

On February 22, the prime minister will also inaugurate the **remaining stretches of the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat rapid rail corridor, linking Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi with Modipuram in Meerut, according to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Alongside this, the 23-km Meerut Metro corridor with 13 stations will be launched.

The expansion of the Namo Bharat corridor marks a key milestone in regional connectivity, reducing travel time between the National Capital Region and Meerut while enhancing commuter convenience across major residential and industrial clusters.

Speaking during the state budget session, Mr. Adityanath highlighted that improved connectivity — by rail, air and road — is central to the state’s development strategy and could boost investment inflows. Uttar Pradesh’s expanding transport infrastructure, including expressways, metro networks, inland waterways and airport connectivity, underscores its ambition to become a major logistics and manufacturing hub.

The twin events next week are expected to draw attention to India’s push into semiconductor manufacturing and strengthen the integration of rapid transit systems as the state accelerates its growth trajectory.
