The redeveloped Cherlapally terminal which was in the pipeline for the last eight years was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The terminal, modernised for Rs 413 crore, is now the fourth largest railway station in the state.
Speaking at the inauguration, Modi emphasised on its strategic connection to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and its role in fostering regional growth.
Drawing attention to the terminal’s modern facilities, including solar-powered systems, the PM said, “This is a step forward in creating sustainable infrastructure. This facility will reduce congestion at the existing railway stations in Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda, thereby enhancing the overall travel experience for passengers.
The PM said launch of railway projects in Telangana, Jammu & Kashmir and Odisha will promote tourism and contribute to socio-economic development in these regions.
“We are taking forward the development of railways in India on four parameters. First, modernisation of railway infrastructure; second, modern facilities for railway passengers; third, railway connectivity in every corner of the country; and fourth, railways creating jobs and supporting industries,” the PM said.
Lauding fast-paced progress in connectivity, Modi said India has been accelerating its initiatives, with metro rail network expanding to over 1,000 km.
