The Container Corporation of India (Concor) has been urged by Union railways minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to expand its terminal network to 100, double its revenue to Rs 18,000 crore, and shift towards comprehensive cargo operations. Speaking on Friday, Vaishnaw stressed the need for a customer-centric approach and a greater contribution to railway cargo transport.

Railways’ Cargo Share and Infrastructure Expansion

Currently operating 66 terminals, Concor had earlier announced plans to increase this number to 80 by 2028, as per chairman and MD Sanjay Swarup. However, Vaishnaw has now pushed for a more ambitious 100-terminal goal, assuring that the Railway Board will provide the necessary land.

“The share of Indian Railways in cargo transport had dropped to its lowest at 26 per cent but has now risen to 29 per cent,” said Vaishnaw, adding that the aim is to raise this share to 35 per cent. He highlighted the value addition in cargo aggregation and urged Concor to explore further expansion opportunities.
