The government on Tuesday extended fiscal incentives under the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme for six more months, ensuring benefits for exporters till March 31, 2026.
The scheme, which ended on September 30, reimburses taxes, duties, and levies incurred during manufacturing and distribution that are not refunded under other central, state, or local mechanisms, media reported.
According to a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), exporters holding Advance Authorisations (AA), units in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), and Export Oriented Units (EOUs) will continue to avail of RoDTEP benefits. The revised rates under the scheme, ranging from 0.3% to 3.9%, will remain applicable across all eligible export items.
Launched in January 2021, RoDTEP has been credited with enhancing the competitiveness of Indian exports by neutralising the impact of non-creditable taxes. Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) President SC Ralhan welcomed the extension, noting it removes policy uncertainty and enables exporters to plan with confidence amid global trade challenges.
India’s exports rose 6.7% to $ 35.1 billion in August, while imports fell 10.12% to $ 61.59 billion. The continuation of RoDTEP is seen as crucial, particularly as India’s exports to its largest market, the US, face a 50% tariff on certain goods.
