A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has been informed of strike action by lashing companies at the Port of Rotterdam.
The strikes began on 8 October at 15:15 and are expected to continue until 10 October at 15:15.
The action involves two independent lashing providers and relates to an ongoing labour dispute concerning working conditions and compensation.
The strike affects lashing operations specifically, which are essential for the safe securing and release of containers on board vessels.
While terminal infrastructure — including pilots and tugs — remains operational, vessel handling is being significantly impacted due to the suspension of lashing services.
All major terminals in Rotterdam are currently affected, including:
- APM Terminals Maasvlakte II
- Hutchison Ports Delta II
- ECT Delta
- Rotterdam World Gateway
Maersk is closely monitoring the situation and has implemented contingency plans with operational partners to mitigate disruption, including adjusted berth windows and revised move counts.
Vessels alongside during the affected period are experiencing delays to cargo operations.
While every effort is being made to minimise the impact on customers’ supply chains, the situation remains beyond Maersk’s control.
Recently, US President Donald Trump announced that a 25 per cent tariff was to be imposed on all imported heavy-duty trucks.
