Valenciaport, one of Spain’s largest ports, has deployed smart border control systems to enhance security, streamline cargo processing, and improve overall port efficiency.
The newly implemented technology leverages advanced biometrics, AI-based monitoring, and automated identity verification to manage the flow of personnel, vehicles, and goods entering and exiting the port. Port authorities said the system is designed to reduce inspection times, improve compliance, and strengthen risk detection.
“Integrating smart border technology is a key step toward modernizing port operations,” said a Valenciaport spokesperson. “It allows us to maintain high security standards while facilitating faster cargo clearance and better operational efficiency.”
The system also includes real-time data analytics and predictive risk assessment, enabling authorities to identify potential threats or irregularities before they impact port operations. This move aligns with Europe’s broader push for digitalization in ports under initiatives like the EU’s Port Community Systems (PCS) framework.
Valenciaport expects the smart border system to accelerate turnaround times for vessels and trucks, reduce bottlenecks, and support sustainable port operations. Officials also highlighted that this initiative will improve supply chain transparency, benefiting importers, exporters, and logistics partners.
The deployment marks a significant step in Valenciaport’s ongoing strategy to blend security, technology, and efficiency as it continues to strengthen its position as a key Mediterranean logistics hub.
