In a significant milestone for India’s shipbuilding capabilities, the fourth 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessel being constructed by Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), was successfully launched today.

The vessel was ceremonially launched by Mrs. Nadezhda Bogdashova, wife of Mr. Sergey Bogdashov, Newbuilding Site Manager of Norway-based Wilson ASA, one of Europe’s leading short-sea shipping operators. The launch event took place at UCSL’s shipbuilding yard at Malpe, marking the continued progress of the multi-vessel series order placed by Wilson ASA.

This 3800-tonne deadweight (TDW) general cargo vessel is part of a fleet modernisation programme undertaken by Wilson ASA to enhance its environmental performance and operational efficiency in the European coastal trade. The vessel series is being built with advanced design features, improved fuel efficiency, and compliance with the latest IMO regulations.

Senior officials from CSL, UCSL, and representatives from Wilson ASA attended the ceremony, reaffirming the strong partnership between Indian shipbuilding capabilities and European maritime operators. With the launch of the fourth vessel, construction of the remaining ships in the series continues on schedule.

UCSL, known for building a range of commercial and defence vessels, has been expanding its portfolio with export-oriented shipbuilding contracts. The ongoing project for Wilson ASA underscores India’s growing role in the global shipbuilding supply chain.

The vessel will now undergo outfitting and sea trials before final delivery to the owner.
